Shorf uddin Chowdhury (MSc 2017)

Shorf completed his MSc in July of 2017.  His thesis addressed the ‘human dimension’ of Asian elephant conservation in his home country of Bangladesh.   To that end, Shorf conducted questionnaire surveys of villagers in south-east Bangladesh to ascertain the impacts the elephants have on local economies and lives.  He also went into some of the remaining patches of habitat to determine their condition and suitability for offering forage and refuge  to the animals.   Shorf is now back in Bangladesh working for the national Forest Service.

Co-supervisor on this thesis was Dr. Rob Hood from the Department of Tourism at TRU. Funding was provided through the Strengthening Regional Co-Operation for Wildlife Protection Project, under the World Bank.
