Malcolm McAdie

McAdieMalcolm is a well-known wildlife veterinarian who has assisted with a number of projects in our lab. He eventually  pursued his own MSc degree on a topic he has been closely involved with for many years, namely the recovery of the Vancouver Island Marmot.  This animal generally is considered one of (if not ‘the’) most endangered mammals in Canada. Malcolm  used his extensive knowledge of veterinary medicine to address a simple but deceptively complex question: what constitutes a ‘healthy’ marmot population? His thesis involved working through years of data on captive-raised and wild-born marmots, and combining that with information he helped collect in the field.

Our partners on this project were Dr. Craig Stephen of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative and the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation.
