-Alexa Wiebe For her Honours Thesis in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences, Alexa focused on the relationship of a population of painted turtles to changes in water levels across a complex of ponds and lakes. Building on a previous year’s worth of data, Alexa used an NSERC Undergraduate Research Award to further study the movements of turtles across the landscape experiencing changing water levels. Her work also implications for road mortality, as increase movements due to the drying up of ponds likely prompts more overland travelling by the turtles.
