Lindsay is the sixth consecutive graduate student to run our research program on rattlesnakes at the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyooos, British Columbia.  Lindsay joins our lab after completing her undergraduate studies at Quest University. Her thesis comes at an interesting time in the history of the snake population:  in 2021 a large wildfire ripped through much of the home range used by the rattlesnakes on the site.  As a result, Lindsay is focusing on understanding how the fire has (or has not) affected the snake population, and how surviving individuals are coping with the significant changes to the landscape.

Our project at Osoyoos occurs on the traditional lands of the Osoyoos Indian Band and is enabled by the strong support of the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre.     Dr. Christine Bishop with Environment and Climate Change Canada has been lending critical support and advice to the program for over two decades.   The Aboriginal Fund for Species-At-Risk provides our core funding.
